Zachary Bags-ROLEmodels Service Project
My ROLEmodels continued our service to area homeless people by participating in the Zachary Bags service project, started by my amazing friend Tami. Her son Zachary was very involved with the Dallas homeless population. He sadly died in a car accident a couple of years ago, and her family started the Zachary Bags project in his name to allow his legacy to live on. They collect necessities, and pack them in bags to distribute in areas of Dallas heavily affected by homelessness.
Tami sharing her story with the ROLEmodels
Last summer, my ROLEmodels visited the Austin Street Homeless Shelter to serve a meal, and the Zachary Bags project fit in well with our mission. In November, we collected a variety of items as a team, including crackers, wipes, socks, gloves, canned meat, and small toiletries. On a beautiful Sunday morning in November, we delivered the items to Tami’s house, and helped pack lots of Zachary Bags for delivery.
Busy filling up Zachary Bags!
Creating this group of ROLEmodels has given me such an amazing opportunity to get more involved in the community, and I’m sure my girls feel the same way. It’s a huge blessing to see the difference you can make.
I love the personal messages written on each bag.
This picture of Zach was taken just months before he passed away. It truly shows his spirit and how he felt about giving to those in need.
